Integrated Care System (ICS)

Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) are partnerships that bring together NHS organisations, local authorities and others to take collective responsibility for planning services, improving health and reducing inequalities across geographical areas.

There are 42 ICSs across England, covering populations of around 500,000 to 3 million people.

ICSs were established as legal entities with statutory powers and responsibilities in July 2022. Statutory ICSs comprise two key components:

♦ Integrated Care Boards (ICBs): statutory bodies that are responsible for planning and funding most NHS services in the area

♦ Integrated Care Partnerships (ICPs): statutory committees that bring together a broad set of partners (including local government, the Voluntary sector, Community and Social Enterprise sector (VCSE), NHS organisations and others) to develop a health and care strategy for the area.

Working through their ICB and ICP, ICSs have four key aims:

  1. improving outcomes in population health and health care
  2. tackling inequalities in outcomes, experience and access
  3. enhancing productivity and value for money
  4. helping the NHS to support broader social and economic development.

Trent View Medical Practice is part of the Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (HNY ICB). The ICB area stretches along the east coast of England from Scarborough to Cleethorpes and along both banks of the Humber and incorporates the cities of Hull and York, along with rural areas across East Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire, serving a population of 1.7 million. Contact details for HNY ICB can be found HERE.

GP Practices are grouped together to form PCNs (Primary Care Networks). PCNs are grouped within their 'Place' or Local Council area e.g. North Lincolnshire.  The six Local Council areas within the HNY ICB, together with other partners, come together to form the HNY ICS (Humber & North Yorkshire Integrated Care System).

The HNY ICB has created a 'Lets Get Better' website where you can find all the information you need to help live a more healthy and active life.
