Shingles vaccine

The shingles vaccine is recommended for some older adults and people with a severely weakened immune system:

♦ From the 1st September 2023, you are eligible for the shingles vaccine when you become 65. If you reached the age of 65 before 1st September 2023 you are not eligible until you reach the age of 70. You will remain eligible until your 80th birthday.

♦ Everyone aged 70 to 79.

♦ If you're aged 50 or over and have a severely weakened immune system.

The MenACWY vaccine

"Fresher" students going to university for the first time should make sure they've had the MenACWY vaccine to prevent meningitis and septicaemia, which can be deadly. You should also ensure you have had two doses of the MMR vaccine.

The MenACWY vaccine is also routinely offered to teenagers in school Years 9 and 10.

The MenACWY vaccine is given by a single injection into the upper arm and protects against 4 strains of the meningococcal bacteria – A, C, W and Y – which cause meningitis and blood poisoning (septicaemia).

Travel vaccines

Trent View Medical Practice may also be able to provide travel vaccinations. If possible, contact the surgery at least 6 to 8 weeks before you're due to travel. In most cases, travel vaccines are not provided free of charge by the NHS and you will need to pay for each vaccination.
